As vice president of business development for WiLAN, Daniel J Henry focuses on leading acquisitions of IP assets and developing new business initiatives.

Before joining WiLAN, Mr Henry was senior vice president of ICAP Patent Brokerage, where he advised clients on the sale and acquisition of valuable IP assets. In his two years with ICAP, he generated tens of millions of dollars in sales and advised clients on alternative monetisation methods for their intellectual property.

Previously, he was a partner with Altitude Capital Partners, where he conceived and executed the business development programme as well as the firm’s strategic relationships with corporate IP holders and other IP professionals. In his four years with Altitude, the fund invested more than $120 million in 18 different transactions. Each transaction was uniquely structured to meet the needs of the IP owner, and included substantial investments in two operating businesses.

Mr Henry is a practised speaker on intellectual property and value generation, and has presented at conferences including the 2005 IP Impact Conference in San Francisco; the 2006 New IP Economy in Ottawa; the 2008 Nordic IPR Forum in Stockholm; the 2008 Ocean Tomo Auction in Chicago; the 2009 IP Business Congress in Chicago; the 2011 Seventh Patent Strategies Summit in Palo Alto; and the Israel Advanced Technology Industry and Israel-America Chamber of Commerce Conference in Tel Aviv.

Mr Henry has been named one of IAM magazine’s top 300 IP strategists annually since its inception.
