With pharmaceutical product patents only recently introduced in India, this is a nascent market: few firms have an established patent litigation practice to match the widespread trademark expertise that exists in the country. Things are changing, though, as legislative reforms designed to make India TRIPs-compliant have lured international innovator clients to the market; and a growing number of standard-setting life sciences cases are being decided, particularly in the pharmaceutical and medical device areas.

Also in the pharmaceutical field, Bomi Daruwala of Vaish Associates Advocates comes recommended for his experience in handling innovator cases. Singh & Singh name partner Prathiba Singh is commended for her portfolio of patent cases; she specialises in defending generic pharmaceutical companies. “Skilful IP expert” David Solomon of De Penning & De Penning is praised for his “deep technical knowledge” of patent cases. Hariharan Subramaniam of Subramaniam Nataraj has a strong life sciences practice; he is recognised for his experience in patent law for both contentious and non-contentious matters.
