David Aitken is a partner in the firm's Ottawa office and a member of the IP department. He practises IP law with an emphasis on litigation in the fields of patents, trademarks and copyright, patent prosecution and technology-related issues. He advises on patent infringement and validity, trademark and copyright infringement and software licensing, and appears before the Federal Court of Canada, the Patent Appeal Board and the Trademarks Opposition Board. He also advises clients on securing and protecting patent and trademark rights, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, negotiating and preparing agreements for the licensing and exploitation of patent, trademark and copyright rights in Canada and abroad, and preparing patent infringement and validity opinions.

He is a registered patent agent, a registered trademark agent and a professional engineer, and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1984.
