Jeffery Norman is an IP partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His practice is focused on complex technologyrelated transactions and litigation. He works with private equity firms, Fortune 500 technology companies and rapidly growing computer hardware, software and pharmaceutical businesses.

Mr Norman leads negotiations and provides strategic IP counselling in a variety of contexts, including international and domestic joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, asset carveout and spin-off transactions, research and development, manufacturing, patent licensing and software development and licensing. He also litigates software patent, trade secret, copyright, trademark and general commercial disputes.

In addition, Mr Norman is a C language programmer with significant commercial programming experience, and he has authored several peer-reviewed articles in the area of artificial intelligence. He is active in the software community and his comments on computer technology, patent infringement issues and open-source code have appeared in several articles. He has presented at numerous events on topics such as information security breaches, open source law and IP issues in business transactions.
