Hot on the heels of the IAM Strategy 300, we are pleased to announce the online publication of The IAM Patents 1000: The world’s leading patent practitioners. To the best of our knowledge this is the first standalone publication which identifies individual and firm expertise in all major areas of patent law and practice. The product of many months of dedicated work undertaken by a team of four researchers, the IAM Patents 1000 provides in-house counsel and other purchasers of patent-related legal services with one-stop, user-friendly and detailed information covering more than 30 of the world’s most significant patent jurisdictions.

Our researchers conducted telephone and face-to-face interviews with more than 800 individuals – patent attorneys and lawyers, as well as corporate counsel. Each was asked to identify the practitioners and firms in their jurisdictions which they believe provide top class services in areas such as patent procurement, licensing and litigation. In addition, firms were invited to submit details of recent work that they have handled and to provide client references, which were then followed up. Using all this information, the research team compiled ranking tables on specific areas of patent practice for firms and individuals in each of the jurisdictions covered by the guide. In this way, the IAM Patents 1000 looks at the full range of patent services from creation, through management to dispute resolution. It covers both law firms and patent attorney firms.

Along with the rankings tables, each chapter also provides an overview of the market for patent services in the relevant country, as well as detailed commentary which explains why each firm and individual has been ranked. No other guide provides close to the detail to be found in the IAM Patents 1000; neither is there any other publication where such information can be found in one place.
