On 25th and 26th June 2008, IAM magazine will be hosting the IP Business Congress 2008, in partnership with Ocean Tomo LLC. The Congress, to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, will be based on the premise that IP rights are profoundly important corporate assets and have to be treated as such if their full value potential is to be realised. The Congress will not be focused on IP law; it will be about IP business, finance and monetisation - essentially, how IP rights can and should be leveraged to bring maximum benefit to those that own them. Anyone interested in these topics should be there. The event will be divided into two parts.

The first day and a half will be taken up by the CIPO Summit, which will be organised and run by IAM. This will explain the roles and the responsibilities of the chief intellectual property officer (CIPO); identify the regulatory and business challenges facing today's CIPOs, and explore the opportunities and dangers these present; and set out how the CIPO role and the world in which CIPOs operate will develop over the coming years.

On the afternoon of the second day, IAM will hand over to Ocean Tomo, who will then hold their second ever European Live IP Auction (the first was held in London last June). This will be a chance to see IP monetisation in action, with a series of lots covering a wide range of technologies and a variety of IP rights being offered for sale.

The Congress will be the first event that IAM has ever hosted. And to say that we are excited is an understatement. We are delighted to be working with Ocean Tomo, who have established themselves over the last two years as the world’s pre-eminent IP auction organisation, and believe that between the two of us we will put on event that no-one who is interested in the issues around IP as a business asset can afford to miss.

Right now I am in the process of assembling a world class faculty of speakers to ensure a series of top-level, cutting edge debates and presentations. Keep an eye on the Congress website (www.ipbusinesscongress.com) as it is updated over the coming months and remember to put 25th and 26th June 2008 in your diary. The IP Business Congress is going to be a very big deal and you should be there, along with a host of IP industry leaders from around the world.
