World Trademark Review (WTR), IAM’s sister publication, announced the winners of its 2009 Industry Awards for in-house counsel last night at a champagne reception at the Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle. Timed to coincide with the 131st annual meeting of the International Trademark Association, the event was attended by senior in-house counsel from the nominated companies, as well as by the law firms and attorney firms that were sponsoring each award.
The awards are designed to recognise the vitally important work carried out by in-house trademark counsel, and to identify the teams and individuals that are performing their functions to the highest possible standards. The awards are divided into geographical, industry and individual categories, and the winners are found following a nomination process involving readers of WTR and its email service the World Trademark Review Daily, as well as the more general global trademark community. There were over 1,400 nominations in total. These were then whittled down to shortlists of five by the WTR editorial team, who then selected the winners. And those winners are:
Asia-Pacific Team of the Year - Ferrero
Europe, Middle East & Africa Team of the Year - adidas
Latin America Team of the Year - Philip Morris
North America Team of the Year – E I du Pont de Nemours and Company
Energy Team of the Year - Chevron
Food & Beverages Team of the Year - Diageo
Internet Team of the Year - Microsoft
