Microsoft's licensing powerplay shows why Google needs those Nortel patents
Microsoft has reportedly earned $150 million in licensing fees from HTC since settling an Android-related patent dispute with the Taiwanese company last year. According to calculations published on the Asymco website that means Microsoft has earned five times more from this deal than it has from selling licences relating to Windows Phone: A rough estimate of the number of HTC Android devices shipped is 30 million.
